- Anchorage is how text and image interact, they can either have converging or interdependent messages. So if there was a sign that said "Do not enter" and there's an image of a door with an 'X' over it: that would be converging. If it had a symbol of a man being torn in half: that would be interdependent. where both aspects bring new information to the viewer. and Once viewed together give the full message that if they were to enter, they would be torn apart. There is also contradictory messages, which could be made to confuse the viewer or encourage them to think. Example would be a sign saying "please speak English" and the image is of a lizard in a spacesuit.
